Welcome to a Night of Spirit 2018!
What is Night of Spirit?
Night of Spirit (NOS) is Holy Spirit's auction, an event for adults in the school and parish that serves as the largest fundraiser of the year for the school and youth formation programs. The evening includes food, an open bar, silent and live auctions, music, dancing, and much more.
When is Night of Spirit?
The 2018 NOS will take place on Saturday, April 28. Also, in the weeks leading up to the event, families may participate in the online auction using mobile devices. Any items still available after the big event are placed in the After Auction sale, and families may purchase those online as well.
That's a lot of online bidding. Do we bid online at the event also?
We are so glad you asked that! Silent auction bidding takes place through mobile devices (just like the earlier online auction). So while you are meeting new people, noshing on great food, and browsing the silent auction items, you can used your phone to bid. If someone outbids you, you will receive a text alert. If this is your first time using your phone at an auction—NOS has ambassadors available at the event to walk you through each step of the process.
The live auction, however, functions like an old-fashioned auctioneer-run charity auction. We all meet in the transformed school gym, take our seats, and get our paddles ready to raise to bid on items we want. The live auction also provides families a chance to donate to our Fund-A-Need campaign. Last year, our Fund-A-Need supported school scholarships and our teacher investment fund by bringing in $27,000.
Who organizes and runs Night of Spirit?
NOS is planned, put together, and run entirely by parent and parish volunteers. Some of the volunteers are brand new to the school (like you) and others are seasoned Holy Spirit veterans. Some folks volunteer for only a few hours to set up the auction, and others work all year long on projects such as soliciting donations from local businesses. Others pitch in somewhere in between. All these volunteers are important, and we would love for you to join us anytime.
How does Night of Spirit help our community?
Over the years, NOS has supported the Holy Spirit mission to know and honor each student by raising money for the general budget and for specific needs. In fact, since 2003, NOS has raised nearly a million dollars to support Holy Spirit. The difference NOS makes can be seen in the scholarships families receive, in the garden behind the school, in the classroom smart boards and LCD projectors, and in the windows and ceiling fans throughout the school. Your child’s education and our community are better in ways big and small because of NOS.
Can I donate items to Night of Spirit?
Yes! Most families are able to donate something to the auction, and beginning in February, we will be set to accept those items. Donations range from Get Togethers (parties hosted by Holy Spirit families after the auction) to business gift certificates to bottles of wine. Families who own business also make a huge difference in helping NOS happen. If you own a business, talk to a NOS committee member (or join the committee yourself) to learn how you can be a NOS sponsor.
Are there other ways to help make Night of Spirit a success?
New families can help us make NOS a success by looking for our updates in the Holy Spirit FYI emails, by liking our Night of Spirit Facebook page, and by asking questions. You can also help by saving the date and making plans with other new families to meet up at Night of Spirit on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
Is Night of Spirit worth attending?
NOS over the years has become the must-attend event for many adults in the school and parish. Last year, more than 300 community members celebrated our largest and most successful year ever!
